Understanding attitudes of garages to servicing and repair of diesel engines
Examples of our Work - Quantitative Research
Background
A leading supplier of diesel engine diagnostic equipment wanted to assess the attitudes of garages dealing with different types of vehicle servicing and repairs towards work on diesel cars.
Objectives
The specific objectives of this survey were:
-
To identify which types of garage were prepared to take on work on diesel cars -
To understand the level of complexity of work they were prepared to take on
-
To understand reasons for refusing work on diesel cars
-
To identify any differences across garages and diesel service centres
Methodology
This telephone survey was carried out amongst a representative sample of garage managers using a questionnaire which took about 10 minutes to complete. The client name and, initially, the type of work of particular interest to the enquiry was withheld from the respondent.
Managers were asked what type of work they were prepared, and not prepared, to take on for diesel cars. Reasons for their views were then sought. They were asked what might encourage them to take on more diesel work and whether they currently passed on diesel work to other garages.
Throughout, the emphasis was on understanding whether work was not taken on because of perceived lack of expertise or for other reasons.Full classification details were obtained, including types of equipment used.
Outcome
The detailed understanding of garages’ attitudes to diesel work enabled this supplier to target their sales and marketing initiatives more effectively. The classification data served as a useful breakdown of results and allowed the types of garage which demonstrated the greatest potential for diesel engine diagnostic equipment to be targeted more effectively.
